Dynamics Of Migration: Socio-Economic Impacts and Trends
Abstract
Migration a rather broad and versatile process plays a crucial role in the process of socio-economic development and cultural interaction on the international and national levels that affect system environments and communities. From this view, this article provides a systematic and multifaceted review of migration in terms of kinds, motives, effects, and policy. According to the movement, migration is divided into internal and international movements, and by force—which is voluntary and forced—and by duration of the movement, which is seasonal movements, temporary movements, and permanent movements. These factors include economic factors such as economic opportunities; health and education; climate factors comprised of climate change; and political factors including political stability. The socio-economic impacts of migration are dual-faceted: while it promotes economic development, cultural and remittance diversities, this model puts pressure on resources, social integration issues arising from brain drain included. Specific focus is made on the gender-related threats linked to women and girls through presenting them as both workers and as the subjects of exploitation. Two examples should be made of migration in South Asia and in tribal communities to stress on the local and regional character of this process. The article makes it clear that present migration changes must therefore be made sustainable through long-term policies and combined international efforts to realize the potential and flatten the challenges that come with migration. Mujtaba comprehensively presents the systemic thinking work, which, with its focus on the critical parameters and integration of inclusive governance, can enable migration to move from the state of being a problem to becoming an opportunity advancing global equity and strengthening worldwide counterpart to fragility.

Environmental Pollution in India: Challenges and Administrative Responses
Abstract
Environmental pollution threatens India's socio-economic growth by impacting public health, natural resources, and quality of life. This essay analyses environmental pollution in India, its types, sources, and effects, and emphasises the necessity for strong administrative solutions. Vehicle emissions, industrial operations, and agriculture pollute urban air. Industrial waste and agricultural chemicals pollute water and soil, endangering ecosystems. Rising loudness and plastic pollution demonstrate the issue's complexity.
Policy gaps, institutional inefficiencies, economic constraints, and technology restrictions must be overcome to reduce pollution in India. Public awareness and behavioural change are crucial to pollution prevention but underutilised. Administrative answers to these difficulties include legislative frameworks, government efforts like the National Clean Air Programme and Namami Gange, and court and pollution control board interventions. The paper concludes that India needs better governance, public participation, and long-term pollution solutions to become cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable.

Urbanization and Cultural Shifts: Transformations in the Livelihoods of Gaddi Pastoralists in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh
Abstract
This study explores the influence of urbanization on the livelihoods, socio-economic conditions, and traditional pastoral practices of the Gaddi pastoralist community in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. The research reveals significant changes in demographic profiles, livelihood patterns, and cultural practices due to modernization and urban encroachments. Traditional sheep and goat rearing, once a predominant livelihood, has declined, with many Gaddi pastoralists shifting towards wage labour and government jobs. Urbanization has brought socio-economic improvements, including increased access to healthcare, education, and digital connectivity. However, it has also reduced grazing lands and disrupted seasonal migration patterns, leading to a decline in cultural practices. The study highlights the dual impact of urbanization, bringing both opportunities for economic advancement and challenges in preserving cultural heritage. The community perceives urbanization positively in terms of infrastructure and services but expresses concerns over cultural erosion. Policy measures must focus on integrating sustainable urban development with the preservation of traditional practices to maintain the cultural identity of the Gaddi community while ensuring their socio-economic progress. Understanding these impacts is essential for crafting balanced policies that promote sustainable livelihoods and cultural preservation in pastoral communities.

The Impact of Chemical Fertilizer on Potato Production in Birbhum District, West Bengal
Abstract
Abstract:
Agriculture is the most important factor affecting the economic development of any developing country. Birbhum is generally known as a predominantly agricultural district as large or medium scale industries have not flourished in the district. The current study is stand on primary & secondary data source obtained from various published and unpublished sources. As the amount of cultivable land per capita is gradually decreasing due to increasing population, urbanization, industrialization etc. Some thought needs to be given now to maintain the production of the district at an appropriate level in the future. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the effect of chemical fertilizers on potato productivity in Birbhum district. This paper discusses potato production in Birbhum district. The amount of chemical fertilizers used per hectare in the district is slightly higher than the state average. As a result of increased use of these fertilizers, effects on potato productivity have been observed. With the increase in potato cultivation in this district, the production level has also increased. Farmers in the district have reduced the use of organic fertilizers due to increasing dependence on chemical fertilizers. One thing needs to be made clear to them that if the fertility of the agricultural land of Birbhum district is to be maintained at a high level for a long time, more organic fertilizers must be used. It promotes long-term food production while minimizing negative impact on the environment & human body.

People’s Movement in India That Inspired Environmental Change
Abstract
The concern for the present day environmental problems in most of the developing countries like India is of relatively recent origin. Even the recent awareness and concern for environmental protection at the policy level is a donor induced one, and at the grassroots level, it is due to the efforts by individuals and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). In the absence of ground level awareness and concern, environmental aspects have remained more or less peripheral to the contemporary social movements in India. Some of the contemporary movements, however, acquired the status of ecological or environmental movements in retrospect, as these movements have widened their focus from basic survival needs to ecological concerns.

Population Pressure and Horizontal Urban Growth in Siliguri Municipal Corporation, West Bengal
Abstract
In most of the urban centres in India population pressure is increasing, which needs a proper planning by the government to avoid negative environmental and socio-economic impacts. It was found that population per unit area of built-up surface may serve as a good indicator of urban sprawl. Since the study area is the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, detailed ward wise decadal analysis is made. The temporal changes were calculated along with population using Location Quotient, in the last three decades. It is also observed that the urban density is higher in the central parts of the wards and lower in the northern wards as most of the northern part was covered by agricultural lands and open space. Siliguri urban agglomeration is extended in the districts of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. It incorporates the Bagdogra airport and Cantonment area to the West, New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to the South and Dabgram area to the North and East. The study investigated population growth occurring in the study area and the results show that the overall growth in built-up area is observed in the southeastern parts. The present study highlights the concentration of population ward wise, which necessitates decentralization of smart utility services to the peripheral areas for future planning. In order to ensure long term Sustainability, land resource management is required on priority basis with efficient use of modern techniques.

A Comparative Analysis of Community Participation in the Raimona National Park, Assam
Abstract
Since time immemorial, forests and their associated products have remained essential in sustaining livelihoods (Mamo et al. 2007). About 1.6 billion people globally are substantially reliant on forests for livelihood sustenance (World Bank, 2002). Forests are an important natural resource with which humans are directly related in all aspects. Forests have influenced all aspects of food, medicine, livelihood, economy, etc., since ancient times. In addition, forests have environmental benefits, ecosystem services, cultural connections, etc., without which life is impossible. Similarly, there are different opportunities for employment generation in terms of economic development. Tourism provides a market for local products, and cultural development becomes possible also. However, this can also be accompanied by environmental degradation, land-use change, etc. Raimona National Park has a lot of positive potential for conservation due to its location. The Bhutan border to the north, adjacent to Manas National Park, also contributes to its security. However, local awareness can maintain the conservation aspect of a forest. “It is felt by present-day conservationists that without proper participation and a positive attitude of the local people, no protected area can sustain itself in the long run (Nath, Bhrigu Kumar 2016).” The residents of a total of 90 villages adjacent to Raimona National Park have played a major role in this regard. In addition, everyone has an emotion about their place of birth and wants to be safe. During the researcher's field study period, villagers reported that Raimona National Park provides almost all their basic needs. To analyse the community participation, the researchers collected primary data using a questionnaire and face-to-face conversation with the localities. A total of 331 respondents were interviewed. The data collection period is October 2023 to September 2024. To analyse the collected data, the researcher used simple statistical techniques.

Geospatial Assessment of Soil Erosion Risk Under Different LULC Categories in the Silabati River Basin, India
Abstract
Soil erosion is an ongoing environmental challenge majorly caused by changes to land use and land cover (LULC). Acknowledging how LULC drives soil erosion rates is vital to effective land management and conservation planning. Geospatial technologies, such as remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS), offer highly accurate, cost-effective, and time-efficient ways of assessing soil erosion. This study indicates that barren land is particularly susceptible to soil erosion, with an Erosion Susceptibility Index (ESI) score of 4.39, followed by agricultural land at 1.28, further emphasizing the need for effective soil conservation measures as soon as possible. Other LULC categories, including built-up areas, vegetation cover, and river and water bodies, have an Erosion Susceptibility Index (ESI) score below one, signaling minimal erosion risk. To reduce soil degradation, it's essential to employ sustainable land management strategies like afforestation, contour farming, and watershed management. Continuous monitoring with advanced geospatial techniques will significantly enhance erosion prediction and enable informed decision-making, underlining the significance of incorporating technological advancements into conservation policies to maintain long-term soil health and productivity.
